Dwelling: we all have a fundamental relationship with our place of residence. The Scottish countryside: something of great beauty and a unique identity. We are currently on the verge of a major change in the way in which we are living, both due to carbon saving legislation and lifestyle shifts relating to where and how we work. As part of this change it is highly likely that many low energy, or "zero carbon" houses will be planned for rural areas. This new form of development without proper consideration could have a detrimental effect on the spaces that we live in and the context in which they are sited. The effects of this can be seen around large cities with the suburbanization of the Scottish countryside and surrounding villages.

This seminar intends to discuss factors that effect low energy housing within a Scottish rural context. It will also outline the work in-progress and define the current research framework
