Commissioner for Children and Young People to give talk

The Law School at the University of Dundee is hosting a talk by Professor Kathleen Marshall, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People on Tuesday 30 October at 1pm in the Baxter Conference Suite, First floor, Tower Building. Professor Marshall’s talk is entitled - "Promoting Rights and Righting Wrongs? Different approaches to the development of law and policy."

How cells recognise damage to their DNA

Every cell in the body suffers 10,000 damaging events in its DNA every single day, and probably more if you smoke or sunbathe. DNA is the only material in the cell that is actively repaired, as opposed to throwing it away and making it anew. It is only DNA repair that stops us from contracting cancer on a regular basis. This requires proteins that can recognise and manipulate damaged DNA.

Parallax - Two perspectives on Orkney and beyond

This exhibition of the works of Roland Ashcroft and Jeremy Baster focuses on the parallels between their different visions of Orkney. What binds their two perspectives together is an appreciation of Orkney and its landscapes. Common themes appear in their works, reflecting the timeless features of the islands: stones and rocks, lighthouses, dykes and stone structures, birds, and the flotsam and jetsam from the oceans and seas around the islands.
