Entrance Portfolio Exhibition

This exhibition provides a great opportunity to view successful entrance portfolios to First Year General Foundation in Art & Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee. The exhibition begins Monday 29 October and finishes 4pm Friday 9 November.

The portfolios selected for exhibition cover the full range of candidates from school leavers to mature students. Viewers will see that the portfolios on show are varied with no portfolio the same - this reflects General Course’s desire to not just look at one type of entrance portfolio when selecting candidates. The contents are diverse encompassing amongst other things, sketchbooks, drawings, design work and photography. Portfolios may contain full projects from exam work to personal projects.

The First Year General Foundation in Art & Design is where most of DJCAD’s new students start out. Students are selected on the basis of a portfolio that conveys creativity and technical skill along with an intellectual and enthusiastic engagement in the practice of Art, and Design and embark on a challenging programme of work that has two key objectives. The first is to develop a student’s creative ability through drawing and analysis. An awareness of the nature of Art and Design and its historical context underlies the tuition. The second aim is to help students choose an area of study for the next three years. 90% of the Course is focused on studio practice which includes informal lecturing and demonstration plus individual and group tutoring. There is a weekly programme of Art & Design lectures.

Entrance Portfolio Exhibition is part of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design visiting Days, Monday 29th October - Wednesday 31st October 2007.

The Schools of Fine Art, Design, Media Art & Imaging and Architecture will be open, as will the BSc degree courses in Innovative Product Design and Interactive Media Design.
