First-year filmmakers stage festival
First-year students on the University of Dundee’s Interactive Media Design course are to stage their first film festival only weeks after starting their course.
The students have barely emerged from Freshers’ Week at the University but have been quick to complete their opening projects in which they were set the task of making ten films.
For five of the films they were asked to incorporate a wide range of camera movements and work to the theme `Death In The Matthew Building’, giving them a grisly introduction to their new surroundings at the University.
The other five films had to be silent films to which the students then added a background soundtrack.
They will present the fruits of their labour at the IMD 1 Film Festival on Tuesday 16th October in the Matthew Building, part of the University’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design.
"This has been a great challenge to start our courses and presenting the results as a film festival is our way of announcing to the University that the first-year cohort in IMD are here and determined to make our mark," said Nathan Sparling, one of the first-year students.
The film festival starts at 5 pm on Tuesday, in the IMD studios on level 8 of the Matthew Building and is free to attend.
