A host of top criminal justice figures will subject themselves to a grilling from law students at the University of Dundee tomorrow (Tuesday October 16th).
The School of Law at the University is hosting a `Question Time’ event where students will be able to put their questions to a panel of senior figures drawn from across the criminal justice spectrum.
The Criminal Justice Panel consists of Mrs Betty Bott, Interim District Procurator Fiscal, Edinburgh and Haddington; Sheriff Richard Davidson, Dundee Sheriff Court; Mr George Donnelly, Partner, Lawson, Coull & Duncan, Solicitors, Dundee and Vice Dean of the Dundee Bar Association; and Mr John Vine, Chief Constable of Tayside Police.
The event will be chaired by Lord Turnbull, one of Scotland’s most senior judges, who was involved in many of the most high-profile criminal cases in Scotland while he was a Crown Prosecutor and who since being appointed a judge has presided over the Tommy Sheridan libel case.
He, Mrs Bott and Mr Donnelly are no strangers to the School of Law - all are graduates from Dundee.
"The School ran a very successful Question Time event a few years ago and we were keen to hold another one," said Professor Fiona Raitt. "We are very fortunate to have such a range of expert panellists willing to give up their time to engage directly with students."
"Many of our graduates go on to work with the procurator fiscal service as well as in legal defence work and quite a few join the police. The art of questioning is a necessary skill required of all solicitors and advocates and we are hoping that students will have fun testing out these skills and observing the panel in action. Law students at all levels are encouraged to come along and take part in the debates."
The event takes place at 6 pm on Tuesday in the Conference Room of the Baxter Suite, within the Tower Building at the University.
