‘After Sustainability: the end of pretending’ – public lecture on 16th September

Philosopher John Foster will visit the University of Dundee this month to argue that it is too late to protect the Earth from climate change and that we are unprepared for the ecological and economic ravages it will bring. ‘After Sustainability: the end of pretending’ takes place on Tuesday, 16th September at the Accountancy Lecture Theatre, 1 Perth Road. ‘Forensics: Your Life in Your Hands’ – Café Science Extra on 10th September

Pioneering work to catch criminals when facial identification is not possible will be explained at the first Café Science Extra event of the 2014/15 season. Dr Helen Meadows, from the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID) at the University of Dundee, will lead the event at Dundee Science Centre on Wednesday, 10th September. University projects shortlisted for Times Higher Education Awards

The University of Dundee has been nominated in two categories for this year’s Times Higher Education Awards, including `Research Project of the Year’. The University’s Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID) has been shortlisted for its work in developing techniques to identify offenders by examining their hands. The technique has been deployed in over 40 cases in the UK and internationally and has helped secure two life sentences and over 100 years of incarceration for perpetrators of child abuse. Student athletes assemble for pre-season

More than 300 University of Dundee athletes from 23 sports clubs will this weekend begin a six-day training camp designed to get them in peak physical condition ahead of the new season. Warm-Up Week 2014 runs from Saturday, 6th September until Thursday, 11th September and will see the students take part in sport-specific training sessions alongside a range of conditioning sessions. `Lung Ranger’ lassos the UK Cystic Fibrosis community

A team of Dundee students who are developing a device to help combat some of the effects of cystic fibrosis have been invited to present their idea at a national CF conference. The iGEM team of students from the University of Dundee has spent the summer working on the `Lung Ranger’, which they hope will allow faster and more targeted treatment of infection for CF patients.
