Scientists provide insight into cell biology mystery
Scientists at the University of Dundee have solved an important part of the mystery about one of the most fundamental processes in cell biology. The process by which cells copy their own chromosomes and then make new cells is vital to all of life. The chromosomes contain the genetic blueprint that makes us what we are and this information must be copied perfectly for new cells to survive and carry out their function. Author “saved” by writing wins £10,000 Dundee International Book Prize
An English debut author, who says an evening class where she discovered a love of writing saved her from her itinerant and chaotic twenties, has been named as the winner of the 2014 Dundee International Book Prize. Amy Mason (32) received £10,000, the largest cash prize for an unpublished author in the UK, and a deal with Glasgow-based Cargo Publishing for her novel, ‘The Other Ida’. First Scottish solo exhibition by pioneering computer artist
The first solo exhibition in Scotland by William Latham, a pioneering figure of computer art in the UK since the 1980s, will open at Centrespace, Visual Research Centre, next week. ‘William Latham: Mutator 2’ features interactive video works, drawings and prints that explore and embody evolutionary processes, physical and virtual space. Founding editor of 2000AD to headline Comics Day
The legendary Pat Mills, often described as the godfather of British comics, will headline this year’s Dundee Comics Day. The event takes place at the University of Dundee’s Tower Building on Sunday, 26th October as part of the 2014 Dundee Literary Festival.
