Professor Vicki Hanson elected President of Association for Computer Machinery
The University of Dundee’s Professor Vicki Hanson has been elected President of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the world’s largest computing society. Professor Hanson is Chair of Inclusive Technologies at the University and her distinguished career has seen her research issues of inclusion for older adults and disabled people. She is currently investigating care home design and technology in support of resident mobility and wellness. New ice hockey scholarship student makes it a trio from Canada.
The University of Dundee has announced its new Dundee Stars ice hockey scholarship student. Justin Faryna from Alberta, Canada will start at the School of Business next semester to complete a fully funded place on the MSc Management programme. He was named player of the year for the Dundee Stars this season, and was also their top scorer. Justin will be added to a trio of Canadian players who have been sponsored by the University, with this season’s player Lou Dickenson from Ontario and 2014/15’s player Marc Cheverie from Nova Scotia. A genetic game of `winner takes all’ that sustains the parasitic infections which cause sleeping sickness in humans and nagana in cattle – devastating diseases particularly in rural areas of Africa - has been identified in a research breakthrough led by the University of Dundee. Visitors have just three days left to take in the attention-grabbing, thought-provoking and convention-challenging exhibits at this year’s Art, Design and Architecture Degree Show at the University of Dundee. Identity and relationships explored through smartphone-sized portraits
A University of Dundee student has revived the ancient practice of miniature portrait painting as a way of exploring the very modern way we forge and maintain relationships through smartphones. Emily Stewart, a Fine Art student, painstakingly painted a series of beautiful, small-scale portraits of family, friends and other acquaintances.
