The Susan Reid Memorial Prize
Social Work students Diane Murray and Kari Gallacher have been named as the first winners of the Susan Reid Memorial Prize, named in honour of the former librarian at the University of Dundee. Susan worked as a Liaison Librarian at the University’s Library & Learning Centre for her entire professional career, spanning 34 years. She sadly died last year. She also contributed to the BA and MSc programmes in Social Work at the University, providing inspirational accounts of the impact of disability on a family and practical guidance for potential social workers in assessing and working with carers...

New bowel cancer home screening test to be introduced across country
Robert Steele, Professor of Surgery and Head of Cancer Research at the University of Dundee, has welcomed the introduction of a new bowel cancer test which simplifies sample collection in a bid to increase participation in Scotland’s national bowel screening programme and save more lives. New book explores big questions faced by humans and the cosmos
Antony Black , Emeritus Professor of Political Thought at the University of Dundee, has addressed some of the biggest questions of spirituality, humanity and morality in a new book published this week. Humans and the Cosmos: Exploration and Mindfulness asks what kind of universe we live in, where do we fit into the galaxies and whether God explains it all? Dundee to lead `big data’ challenge
The University of Dundee is to lead a major project to help tackle one of four key biosciences `big data’ challenges identified by the UK’s Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. The BBSRC has announced an investment of £7.5m in new infrastructure to tackle bioscience big data challenges.
