The University of Dundee has announced the appointment of Alasdair McGill to the new role of Head of Enterprise & Entrepreneurial Strategy.
Alasdair has been appointed as part of the University's Transformation strategy, with Enterprise & Entrepreneurship seen as a key component in delivering Dundee’s vision to become the Scotland’s leading University.
After qualifying as an accountant with Ernst & Young in Dundee, Alasdair has spent the past 25 years on an entrepreneurial journey, working in industries as diverse as construction, bars and restaurants, technology and professional services.
He is currently a Director of GS-Group - the leading independent Insurance Broker & Financial Service provider, whilst he also holds non-executive director roles with a number of companies and is a Board Member of Scottish Cycling, the sport's governing body in this country.
Speaking about his appointment, Alasdair said, “I am delighted to have been appointed to this role. I am passionate about entrepreneurship and am looking forward to developing and implementing a strategy for all of our students to be exposed to enterprise and entrepreneurship during their time in Dundee.
“We also want to build a culture that encourages entrepreneurial students to start up their own businesses during their time here, and take those skills and experiences on into their life once they graduate.”
Professor Pete Downes, Principal of the University, said, “Alasdair McGill meets my definition of a high achiever in all that he does. He brings enormous breadth of achievement and serial success to the University's Enterprise and Entrepreneurism strategy, to the benefit of our students and their future impact on Scotland's economy.”
