Take ‘A Walk on the Wild Side’ at museum event

The University of Dundee’s D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum will this weekend unveil a creative catwalk and invite the public to unleash their inner animal.
Using the many fascinating specimens in the Museum’s collection as inspiration, visitors will be encouraged to create beastly mask designs on Saturday, 17th May as part of the Festival of Museums 2014. Materials to make masks and accessories will be provided, but participants are also encouraged to bring along old clothes to jazz up with some exciting wild animal motifs and scenes.
Drinks and nibbles will be provided, and the finished products will be showcased on the catwalk towards the end of the night and captured by photographers for use online.
Museums Galleries Scotland intern and organiser of the event, Hope Roberts, said, “Everyone is invited to bring any old bits of clothing to jazz up with wild ideas. A professional face painter will be joining us in the museum to enhance the faces behind the masks or to give you a complete animal makeover. We hope that everyone’s animal streak will shine through.
“The event is suited to people of all ages, and don’t worry if you’ve never made a mask before – we’ve got lots materials to keep everyone busy and some lovely volunteers to give a helping hand.”
‘A Walk on the Wild Side’ takes place from 7.30-9pm on Saturday, one of the many exciting events taking place as part of the nationwide Festival of Museums between 16th and 18th May. More information is available at http://festivalofmuseums.com/.
The Festival is being run by Museums Galleries Scotland, the national development body for Scotland’s museums and galleries. To find out more, visit www.museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk.
