'Summer Shorts' offer access to art world

Visitors to this year’s Degree Show at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) inspired by the breath-taking array of creativity on display can take advantage of a range of short courses running at the institution over the summer.

The ‘Summer Shorts’ have been devised for those who would like to try their hand at something new, expand existing skills or sample a discipline before committing to full-time study. The programme is also welcoming to people who wish to simply have fun and meet new people, with courses set at different experience levels where appropriate.

Jeanette Paul, Acting Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, said, “Our Summer Shorts offers an opportunity to develop new skills and techniques, boost career prospects and learn from some amazing creative experts. 

“All courses can booked online and paid for using an Independent Learning Account, if you’re eligible, and no matter which course you choose, you’re sure to come away with lots new friends and a summer to remember.”

Twelve Summer Shorts take place in the form of two- to 10-day courses between June and August. The options are:

  • Photography Summer School.
  • Introduction to Digital Interaction with Arduino & Processing.
  • Making a ‘Poem House’.
  • Machine Knitting for Beginners.
  • Screen Printing on Fabric for Beginners.
  • Spaces, Service and Design Methods for the City.
  • Designing Machine Knitted Textiles for Beginners.
  • Designing Printed Textiles for Beginners.
  • Comic Art Creation.
  • Graphic Design for Beginners.
  • Graphic Design for Intermediates.
  • Embracing Contemporary Art Practice.
