Post-referendum, pre-election views sought for project

Campaign activists and voters in the 2014 Scottish referendum are being asked to take part in a project at the University of Dundee which will take a `snapshot’ of people’s views on the referendum and the forthcoming General Election.
The `Referendum Stories: From Polls to the Personal’ project aims to capture people’s opinions, experiences and assessments of current politics and campaigns.
“This has been a dynamic year in Scottish politics in particular and we are now looking towards a General Election in 2015,” said Dr Edzia Carvalho, from the University’s School of Humanities, who is leading the project.
“Voters have been exposed to one of the longest campaigns in British political history with the independence referendum. Activists were extremely prominent in that, and will be working towards the General Election. We want to get views from all of them on what their experience of the referendum was, how it changed them or affected them.
“The outcome of the referendum will, for example, have impacted on how many people view their own national identity.
“We will also reflect on people’s views of current politics as we move towards the General Election.”
Dr Carvalho is appealing for volunteers to join focus groups for the project this Saturday, 13th December and Sunday 14th December. Full details of how to engage with the project are available at http://www.dundee.ac.uk/humanities/forms/group672? or by contacting Dr Carvalho at e.carvalho@dundee.ac.uk.
There is a small payment for taking part in some of the 90-minute sessions.
The project is being funded by the Carnegie Foundation.
