A fundraising drive for breast cancer inspired by the tragic death of a Dundee woman has reached £25,000 in just five years.
Lifelong friends Mary Morrison and Margaret Manby started their charity efforts following the death of Mary's daughter Nicola Scott at the age of 41 in 2008. In 2013 they raised £3320, which brings their grand total to a phenomenal £25,000.
On Thursday January 16th they will be presenting a cheque for £3320 to leading breast cancer researcher Professor Alastair Thompson at the University of Dundee Medical School.
'Margaret and I are so thankful to everyone who has contributed to our fundraising, because without the help of the public locally we would never have got this far,' said Mary.
'We would like to particularly thank all of our family and friends who have supported us, especially our grandchildren Jennifer, Georgia and Lloyd, who ran over the Tay Bridge and raised £500. We also had great help from the staff at Debenhams with cake sales and donations.'
Professor Thompson said, 'We are hugely indebted to people like Mary and Margaret for the magnificent contribution they make to supporting world-leading cancer research, and breast cancer in particular, in Tayside. Every pound that is donated can make a huge difference, so to raise £25,000 is invaluable to us.'
