The annual Life Sciences Learning & Teaching Student Awards at the University of Dundee will this week recognise the accomplishments of dozens of high-achieving undergraduates.
Sixty-eight students will be congratulated for their hard work over the last academic year at the MSI Lecture Theatre, College of Life Sciences on Thursday, 6th November.
Top prize winner this year is Egle Gaurilcikaite (24) from Kaunas in Lithuania, who will be awarded the Sir James Black Award (CLS) for outstanding achievement. This award is presented by the University to a final year undergraduate student from each College making the most outstanding contribution to research and scholarship in their field. Egle has just completed her BSc Honours degree, obtaining a First Class Honours in Biochemistry and Pharmacology.
Professor David Coates, Dean of Learning & Teaching at the College of Life Sciences, said, “I would like to congratulate all prize-winners on their awards. They have worked hard to excel in their studies and seeing these high-achieving students receiving their awards will help to inspire their peers to do the same.
“We would also like to take this opportunity to officially welcome all our new international students who arrived in September, the largest intake we have had to date. Wei Jun Arnold Tan from Singapore received the Sir James Black International Scholarship, the first time the College has offered this level of award to an International student. This event will bring all the students together, celebrate their achievements and officially welcome the new international arrivals at Dundee.”
Organisers will also pay tribute to the University team who achieved great success in the international genetically engineered machine (iGEM) competition last year. Dundee were crowned Champions of Europe and won the iGEMers Prize and Best Presentation accolade at the subsequent World Championships in Boston.
The award ceremony will be followed by a reception at The Street, part of the newly opened Discovery Centre for Translational and Interdisciplinary Research.
