DUSA polling station for European elections

The United Kingdom's component of the 2014 European Parliament election will be held this Thursday 22nd of May 2014 and for the first time ever Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) will be used as a polling station.

DUSA was officially announced as a polling station in November 2013. Zuchaela Smylie, Vice President of Communications and Campaigns, said students across the campus were encouraged by having access to a polling station in a place they were familiar with.

“This is a very exciting time for DUSA. We have always pushed for our students to get involved in politics at all levels. We hope the fact that DUSA will be a polling station itself will only encourage those students living in campus residences to come out and vote,” said Zuchaela.

All those registered to vote in the UK, EU citizens and members of the Commonwealth are eligible to vote in the election.

In addition to this, on Sunday 25th May DUSA will also serve as a polling station for the election of Bulgarian MEPs to the European Parliament. Vice President of Engagement Stefan Tomov said, “The polling station for the Bulgarian MEPs is a great honour for DUSA. It shows that we are open to serve all members of the local community. We would like to encourage all international students who have the chance to open in Dundee a polling station for election in their home country to contact us and we will try to provide all the necessary support for it to happen.”

This incoming week will be a great preparation in getting the students politically active for the up and coming Independence referendum in September where DUSA will once again serve as a polling station.
