'Dundee Waterfront - a city in transformation' - Thursday, 22nd May

Ways in which Dundee’s existing streets and buildings can be used to enhance the £1billion Waterfront regeneration will be explored at a public lecture next week.

Professor Graeme Hutton, Head of Architecture & Planning at the University of Dundee, will look at ways of ensuring the city’s present and future dovetail as it goes through its biggest construction project for a generation at the D’Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre, Tower Building on Thursday, 22nd May

“Dundee’s Central Waterfront is going through a period of dramatic change further emboldened by the imminent construction of the V&A at Dundee project,” said Professor Hutton. “I will be looking at the qualities of Dundee’s existing urban fabric – the background architecture – and how it can be better understood and extended to create places, streets and buildings which, whilst modern, show continuity with the past.”

This lecture is the final instalment in this year’s Engage Dundee Evenings lecture series. Organised to showcase the work of academics within the University's College of Arts & Social Sciences, lectures are part of a wider Engage Dundee initiative by CASS to disseminate knowledge locally and globally in order to make a positive difference to the social and cultural wellbeing of society.

‘Dundee Waterfront – a city in transformation’ takes place in the University’s D’Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre at 5.30pm on Thursday, 22nd May. The lecture is free and will be followed by a drinks reception. Places can be reserved by calling 01382 381184 or visiting http://tiny.cc/engagedundee.
