Dundee ranked best in UK for Biological Sciences

The University of Dundee has been ranked best in the UK and top internationally outside the USA for Biological Sciences in a key measure of the QS World University Rankings.

Dundee has maintained its top position in the UK in the assessment of biological sciences research measured by citations per paper, the most commonly used general measure of quality and impact for scientists. The University is placed at 9th in the world, highest of any institution outside of the United States.

Professor Mike Ferguson, Dean of Research at the College of Life Sciences at Dundee, said, “I’m delighted that Dundee is maintaining its top position based on citations per paper, which is one of the best and most widely used criteria for judging research excellence by scientists themselves and by national and international funding bodies. Dundee’s reputation in the Biological Sciences continues to go from strength to strength.”

The QS World University Rankings are the most widely read university comparisons of their kind. First compiled in 2004, QS World University Rankings were conceived to present a multi-faceted view of the relative strengths of the world's leading universities. The QS rankings currently consider over 2,000 universities, and ranks over 700, the top 400 of which are ranked individually.
