DJCAD Masters Show 2014
Published On Tue 12 Aug 2014 by Grant Hill
Holographic music, a poster detailing the anatomy of a heart, and skulls excavated during the Edinburgh Trams project feature as part of dozens of exhibits that will be on display when this year’s DJCAD Masters Show opens later this week.
The exhibition at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design will open with a Preview Evening on Friday, 15th August and continue each day until the following Saturday. Transformative design and visually stunning art from five of the UK’s most innovative and exciting postgraduate courses – MSC Animation & Visualisation, MFA Art & Humanities, MFA Art Society & Publics. MSC Forensic Art, MSC Medical Art – will be exhibited.
A number of talks, tours, performances and other events will be taking place as part of this year’s Masters Show celebrations, and more than 100 international delegates visiting Dundee for the prestigious Triennial Conference of the International Association of Word and Image Studies (IAWIS/AIERTI) being hosted by the University-based Scottish Word and Image Group (SWIG) are among the guests who will be attending.
Professor Paul Harris, recently appointed Dean of DJCAD, said, “Postgraduates are challenged to carry out intelligent and comprehensive research to complement their creativity and imagination in order to produce stimulating work.
“The exhibits in the 2014 DJCAD Masters Show demonstrate how our students have built on their undergraduate learning to develop their work to a new level or in a different direction. I am very excited to be attending my first Masters Show as Dean of DJCAD, and I would encourage everyone to come along and find out more about what the students have been doing and draw inspiration from this exhibition.”
• Caitlin Monney (MSc Medical Art), whose heart Anatomy Poster has been nominated in the Illustration category of the 2014 Adobe Design Achievement Awards.
• Jonathon Walda (MFA Art & Humanities), whose installation is illuminated by a streetlight moved indoors.
• Dominique Cameron (MFA Art Society & Publics), who has borrowed a bench from Dundee Law in order to help tell the city’s story.
• John McGowan (MSc Animation & Visualisation), who wanted to know what music would look like travelling through the air.
• Heather Goodrum (MSc Forensic Art), who carried out facial reconstructions of skulls excavated as part of the Edinburgh Trams project.
The Masters Show celebrations will begin with a special, invite-only Preview Evening on Friday, 15th August. It will remain open until Saturday, 23rd August. The exhibition is open from 10am-8pm on weekdays and from 10am-4pm at weekends.
