DJCAD lecturer highlighted as one of Scotland’s top emerging tech entrepreneurs

A nanotechnology firm formed by a lecturer from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) has been named as one of Scotland’s most innovative spin-out companies.

Sarah Morgan, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Nano-Lit Technologies and a lecturer on the Product Design programme at DJCAD, will this week pitch her company to an audience of industry professionals and investors at a special event showcasing the country’s entrepreneurial talent.

‘Teaming with Start-ups’ takes place at Scotland House, home to Team Scotland during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, on Wednesday, 30th July. Hosted by Informatics Ventures, the event will feature 12 of the most innovative new companies from the Scottish IT, energy and life sciences sectors.

Sarah said, “Informatics Ventures quickly embraced me as an entrepreneur and have endeavoured to connect me with the right people and organisations from day one of incorporation. I am looking for a Chief Technology Officer and they have given me this opportunity to make that request to a global audience – I am very grateful.”

Nano-Lit Technologies leverages Sarah’s thesis work in LED lighting applications and knowledge of lighting and manufacturing to commercialise a nascent technology – Quantum Dots.

An entrepreneur and business strategist with a background in industrial design, product development and sociology, Sarah’s first company, eenamaria, brought quality fashion accessories to a global market. Her work has appeared in prestigious publications and venues, and she was twice nominated for the Fashion Group International ‘Rising Star’ award.

A number of top UK and international technology managers will be attending ‘Teaming with Start-ups’ to hear pitches and network with the dozen selected companies. The keynote speech will be delivered by John Innes, Founder and CEO of Amor Group, while Finance Secretary John Swinney MSP will deliver the closing remarks.

Informatics Ventures is a knowledge exchange programme supporting Scotland's technology sectors. It helps foster innovation and entrepreneurship within start-up and spin-out companies and develops strong relationships between industry and academia.
