Designs for the future at Architecture Degree Show

The ruins of Dunfermline Abbey, Dundee’s Waterfront regeneration and the Portuguese city of Porto are among the inspirations for some of the exhibits at this year's University of Dundee Architecture Degree Show.

Final-year Masters in Architecture (March) students are showcasing images and models from their thesis design project at Level 6 of the University’s Matthew Building until 24th May. The graduating students each worked in one of four themes – macro/macro, architecture and the city, architecture and regeneration or rooms + cities.

The resulting projects include:

  • Colin Baillie’s plans to encourage families to return to city centre living by embedding a primary school in the heart of an urban block.
  • Will Hayward’s ideas for an exhibition space within the ruins of Dunfermline Abbey.
  • Hannah Beatty’s exploration of the design of theatres while also looking at the city as theatre itself.

"This year’s Degree Show features work from almost 30 students, and they have done a fantastic job of considering the impact of architecture on urban and rural environments, and how the discipline can help to tackle some of society’s greatest challenges," said Helen O’Connor, Co-ordinator of Undergraduate Studies within the School of Architecture.

The show is open to the public until Saturday, 24th May in the Matthew Building, Level 6, Perth Road, Dundee. The Waterfront Design Room is at the south west of level 6. The show is open to the public and is free.
