Designers invited to apply for digital imaging funding

Academics working in digital imaging along with businesses and designers will have the chance to pitch for up to £40,000 of commercialisation funding at an event in Dundee early next year.

The Technology Accelerator Chiasma (TAC) workshop will take place at the Double Tree by Hilton, Dundee over two dates, Friday 16th and Friday 30th January. The event, hosted by the Design in Action project along with the University of Dundee's Research and Innovation Services (RIS), offers participants the opportunity to meet potential collaborators and create or develop a new product or service in the realm of digital imaging.

Digital imaging has a huge impact on many aspects of our society, from early disease detection to forensic identification, disaster recovery to climate change visualisation. Growing and potential global markets are expected to position digital imaging at the forefront of research across many sectors in coming years.

“Digital imaging developments have the capacity to help millions of people across the world,” said Louise Jack, Project and Communications Co-ordinator at Design in Action. “Design can also play a pivotal role in capitalising and facilitating innovation, as well as taking ideas and realising their commercial potential.

“The TAC workshop will bring world-renowned scientists from the University of Dundee together with designers to work with businesses and organisations in order to capitalise on our collective assets. With Dundee recently being named as one of the UNESCO 'Cities of Design' around the world, there is no better time to examine the impact design can have on research.”

Design in Action is a Knowledge Exchange Hub for the Creative Economy based primarily at the University of Dundee and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and Creative Scotland to research, promote and create opportunities for the adoption of design as a strategy for economic growth in industry.

The Chiasma will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Dundee, from 9am-9pm on Friday 16th January and 9am-8pm on Friday 30th. The event is free to attend and all meals will be provided throughout the event and reasonable travel expenses reimbursed. Designers who meet the qualifying criteria will also have the opportunity to apply for a Design Support Grant worth up to £500 to attend.
