CBE for Professor Doreen Cantrell

Professor Doreen Cantrell, Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee, has been awarded a CBE in the 2014 New Year Honours.

Professor Cantrell was recognised for her services to life sciences.

'I am honoured and delighted to have been awarded a CBE for services to Life Sciences,' said Professor Cantrell. 'I have the privilege of working with an outstanding team in the College of Life Sciences and this honour would not have been possible without their support. I feel this award reflects the impact that Life Sciences research makes to the University, the City of Dundee and society in general.'

Professor Cantrell holds a Chair in Cellular Immunology at Dundee. She is internationally renowned in the field of immunology, in particular for her work on T lymphocyte development and activation, which are key to the comprehension and manipulation of immune responses. She is noted for her multidisciplinary approach and the enlightened combination of biochemical, cell biological, transgenic and gene knock-out technologies.

She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2011.
