CASTLE the key to academic and career success

The University of Dundee has launched a new collaborative centre to improve skills and development opportunities for students and staff.
The Centre for the enhancement of Academic Skills, Teaching, Learning & Employability (CASTLE) will be led by Dr Lorraine Anderson, Assistant Director in the Library & Learning Centre (LLC) and brings together a number of areas of inter-related activity from across the institution together.
Staff from the LLC, Student Services and the School of Education, Social Work & Community Education will provide a more focused approach to academic support, digital literacy and career planning as well as having a significant role to play in supporting innovation in learning, teaching and skills development for students and staff.
In its first months of operation, CASTLE will be a largely virtual centre, before moving into new premises in Airlie Place in the New Year, as well as establishing a physical base in the main University library, adjacent to the InfoZone.
Professor Karl Leydecker, Vice-Principal of Learning & Teaching, said, “CASTLE is an exciting development that bring several existing initiatives together to create a more coherent, efficient and effective resource for students and staff by responding to key institutional aims in partnership with the Schools and Colleges.
“Collaborative working will be key to CASTLE's activities and the Centre will work directly with a number of other areas across the institution. It will become easier to access resources and information and hopefully encourage more students to enhance their learning through the assistance of academic skills tutors.”
CASTLE will play a key role in the dissemination of information around teaching, learning and skills development and training opportunities at the University and externally.
