Published On Thu 17 Apr 2014 by Roddy Isles
The economy has been consistently identified as a prime issue for voters in the independence debate but does the referendum present a risk or opportunity for businesses in Scotland?
A panel of leading business figures from both sides of the debate will discuss the how the referendum is impacting businesses now and what the result will mean for the future of our economy at a 5 Million Questions event at the University of Dundee next week, held in collaboration with Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce.
`Independence – a risk or an opportunity for business?’ takes place at 6pm on Tuesday April 22nd in the Dalhousie Building at the University of Dundee.
The event will be chaired by Nora Senior, who is both President of the British Chamber of Commerce and Chair of Scottish Chambers of Commerce.
She will be joined by four high-profile panellists:
*Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp, Chief Executive of Business for Scotland
* Tony Banks, Chairman and Founder of Balhousie Care Group
* Ruth McKay, Vice-Chairperson of the Federation of Small Businesses North East committee
* Phil Anderton, management consultant and former CEO of the Scottish Rugby Union and Heart of Midlothian FC.
“From the outset of campaigning the economy has consistently been one of the foremost issues identified by voters in the referendum,” said Michael Marra, Director of 5 Million Questions. “This event will see some prominent figures from Scotland’s business community outlining why they think independence will prove to be a boost or a blow to our economy.”
5 Million Questions has been established by the University of Dundee to examine the many issues around Scotland’s constitutional debate, stimulating wider discussion, applying academic rigour to examination of the issues, and engaging with the public on all aspects of the major questions they are facing.
