‘Ageing Brains and Ageing Minds’ – Café Science on 29th September

The relationship between a person and their mind as they age will be examined at a Café Science event next week.

Dr Siobhan MacAndrew, a Reader in Psychology at Abertay University and an honorary Research Fellow at the University of Dundee, will discuss ‘Ageing Brains and Ageing Minds’ at Avery & Co on Monday, 29th September.

Dr MacAndrew said, “We hear people say ‘my brain might be 70 years old but who I really am isn’t!’ What’s the relationship between who you are and your mind? Need we think of ageing as impairment just because mental processes are subject to age-related change? This discussion is about the amazing ageing brain and the even more amazing person inside it.”

Café Science was launched in January 2008, and has attracted over 5000 visitors since then. The monthly events are informal discussions led by leading local researchers that allow members of the public the opportunity to learn more about the ground-breaking science happening locally at the Universities of Dundee, St Andrews and Abertay, the James Hutton Institute, and Dundee Science Centre.

‘Ageing Brains and Ageing Minds’ takes place at Avery & Co, South Tay Street, at 7pm on Monday, 29th September. Doors open at 5.30pm, and the event is free and open to all. There is no need to book in advance but an early arrival is recommended.
