5000 water bottles help keep students safe

Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) has handed out more than 5000 free water bottles since the start of term of September to help ensure all its members remain safe whilst enjoying themselves on a night out.
Members of DUSA’s Customer Safety team now provide the bottles to help revellers remain safely hydrated throughout the night. This initiative was launched as part of a drive by the DUSA Student Executive to place the welfare of members at the heart of its operations.
Fittingly, the 5000-bottle milestone was passed at the start of Student Safety Week, a programme of events organised by DUSA and the University’s Student Services team. Covering everything from passwords to chip pans, sensible drinking to self-defence, the initiative aims to help students keep themselves safe during their time at university.
DUSA Honorary Secretary Tim Hustler said, “It is thanks to the hard work of our night-time staff that this scheme has been so successful. It is a point of pride for DUSA that our Customer Safety team are much more than ‘bouncers’, and this is another example of the way they work to make students and visitors experience a positive one from arrival to getting home safely at the end of the night.”
The campaign to keep students hydrated while on a night out fits with DUSA’s wider objectives to promote sensible drinking and the free water bottles have been extremely popular with students, with hundreds being given out on any regular club night.
Chris Clarke, DUSA’s Operations Manager, said, “The scheme is a classic example of the duty of care that we have towards all our members. We are always striving to enhance their experience here in DUSA and the fact that we are Dundee’s safest nightclub is integral to this.”
