5 MILLION QUESTIONS: Billy Kay 'The Cause: Independence and Identity'
Published On Wed 26 Mar 2014 by Roddy Isles
Writer and broadcaster Billy Kay will explore the history of Scottish nationalism when he presents a public lecture for the University of Dundee’s 5 Million Questions project this Friday.
In late 2012 Billy Kay produced and presented a major series for BBC Radio Scotland on the history of Scottish nationalism.
It ranged from the identity forged in the Wars of Independence, through the radicalism of the 19th century, to the dramatic transformation of the SNP from a small, marginalised "sect" to a dynamic political machine capable of winning two elections and with its eyes on a referendum triumph.
As we approach that momentous decision for the country, Billy will talk about his and the country’s national identity, illustrated with oral history, literature and music from his ground breaking series.
The lecture takes place at 6pm on Friday March 28th at the Dalhousie Building, Old Hawkhill.
