Dundee’s women of science celebrated in new display
An outdoor exhibition highlighting the pioneering contributions that women from Dundee have made to science will go on display at the University of Dundee this week. ‘HerStory of Science’ will open outside the University’s Discovery Centre on Friday, 3rd March and runs until September. The display will tell the early history of women’s extraordinary contributions to science from a local perspective. ‘Outstanding’ partnership to help vulnerable people in communities
A partnership between the University of Dundee and the Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has been awarded the highest grade of ‘Outstanding’ by Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency sponsored by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. ‘The Mighty Women of Science’ – 4th March
A book aimed at getting young people to think about a career in science will be the focus of the next Saturday Evening Lecture at the University of Dundee. ‘The Mighty Women of Science’, written by Clare Forrest, is an A-Z of some well-known and some not so well-known women who have and continue to change the world of science. Women in Science Festival’s Family Fun Day
A Family Fun Day jam-packed with exciting science experiments is being held at Charleston Community Centre this weekend. The free event opens at 10am on Sunday, 5th March and takes place as part of this year’s Women in Science Festival, which is organised by the University of Dundee. There will be lots of exciting hands-on activities suitable for all ages. Families will get the chance to find out more about forensic science and how it is used to help solve crimes. Improving muscle strength in older people – recruits wanted!
The University of Dundee is looking for older people to help with a clinical trial to improve muscle function in older people. The UK-wide trial is testing whether a commonly used heart pill and a food supplement could improve the health of older people across the UK by improving muscle strength. The research team at the University aims to recruit 30 people aged 70 and over, contributing to a total of 450 participants across the UK.
