‘The Mighty Women of Science’ – 4th March
Published On Thu 2 Mar 2017 by Cara Longmuir
A book aimed at getting young people to think about a career in science will be the focus of the next Saturday Evening Lecture at the University of Dundee.
‘The Mighty Women of Science’, written by Clare Forrest, is an A-Z of some well-known and some not so well-known women who have and continue to change the world of science.
Clare will be at the University’s Dalhousie Building, Old Hawkhill, on Saturday, 4th March to talk about the book, alongside the book’s editor and researcher, Fiona Gordon. It will be chaired by Dundee Creative Writing graduate Zoe Venditozzi.
Clare said, “‘The ‘Mighty Women of Science’ project started a couple of years ago as a small black and white zine for comic fairs. It was handmade and self-published.
“The chance to turn my little zine into a full length comic and create something that celebrates so many amazing women has been so special. It's a real privilege to tell the story of each one, especially those who are less well-known.
“My hope is that the book will inspire and motivate other people to pursue their interest in science, whether that involves learning more about someone who captured their imagination or leads them to think about a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.”
‘The Mighty Women of Science’ will take place at the Dalhousie Building on Saturday, 4th March from 6-7pm. Free tickets for this event are available by visiting www.dundee.ac.uk/sels, emailing events@dundee.ac.uk, calling 01382 385108 or from the University’s Tower Building Reception.
Please note that overflow theatres may be in use and the Main Lecture Theatre is filled on a first come, first seated basis.
This event is part of this year’s Women in Science Festival which takes place between 4th and 10th March. It is the World's only festival dedicated to celebrating women in science, technology, engineering & maths.
