Dundee lecturer part of BBC documentary to highlight British Black History
A University of Dundee lecturer will star in a new BBC documentary series to highlight British Black History. History and American Studies lecturer Dr Peggy Brunache will be featured on ‘A Black History of Britain’, which will be aired on BBC Two in the autumn. Dr Brunache will be providing her expertise on African-American Abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglass. In 1845 he toured across Britain for 19 months, lecturing against slavery in the US. Report card decreases dentists’ antibiotic prescriptions
Dentists prescribe fewer antibiotics after they receive a personalised report detailing their past prescription rates, according to a 12-month randomised controlled trial in UK general dental practices. The trial which featured all 795 antibiotic prescribing general dental practices in Scotland has shown a 5.7 percent reduction in dentists’ antibiotic prescribing rate after receiving the intervention. New print group to hold first exhibition in home city
The University of Dundee will this week host an exhibition from a new group of artists formed to promote the print-based work taking place locally. PrintRoomDundee’s self-titled exhibition opens at the Tower Foyer Gallery on Friday, 2nd September. It will be the first group show from the collective of artists and printmakers who live and work in Dundee and its surrounding area to take place in the city. A website developed at the University of Dundee to help diabetes sufferers has made it to the final of a top entrepreneurial competition. Dr Deborah Wake has secured a place in the Converge Challenge final. The Converge Challenge is a high profile entrepreneurship development programme for staff, students, and recent graduates of Scottish Universities and research institutes, with entrants competing for a £150,000 prize fund.
