Dundee’s buildings set to open their doors once again

The programme for this year’s Doors Open Days, one of Dundee’s biggest annual community celebrations, will be launched in the city next week. Doors Open Days 2015 takes place on the weekend of 19th and 20th September. Thousands of people will be allowed to access all areas at a record 50 buildings not normally open to the public as well as taking part in events, tours and talks for all ages. Major European award for plant genetics research

A James Hutton Institute and University of Dundee scientist has been awarded a prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant to undertake research on the fundamental mechanisms that underpin the inheritance of genetic characteristics in cereal crop breeding. It is hoped that results may assist the development of new cereal varieties suited to challenging growing conditions. Scottish night for Spanish students

A group of Spanish students undertaking a special Summer School programme at the University of Dundee will tomorrow be introduced to Scottish food, drink and culture at a reception held to welcome them to the country. The Scottish Evening takes place at the University’s Tower Building from 6-9pm on Thursday, 9th July. Ten students from CEU San Pablo University in Madrid will attend the event along with staff and students from the University’s School of Life Sciences. Silent auction for art students’ work

Postgraduates from the University of Dundee have launched a silent online auction of artwork to raise money for their Masters Show, which opens later this month. Graduating artists from the Master of Fine Art in Art and Humanities programme at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, part of the University, have donated pieces of work along with their Course Director, Mary Modeen.
