TICR trek |
Dundee's Lord Provost John Letford will take a brave step this weekend. Still recovering
from a major heart operation but cleared by his doctor for the challenge, the Lord Provost will undertake the
nine mile TICR trek in Pitlochry for the Institute for Cardiovascular Research as he knows it is good for his
heart and for funding research in Dundee on heart disease. |

Big fundraising push |
Over the past four weekends, scientists in the School of Life Sciences have been fund
raising for their new Diabetes Research Centre at four TESCO stores in Dundee and Perth. So far, they have
collected £10,945 to which TESCO will add an additional 20%. |

Potential drug target for Infectious Diseases |
A team of scientists from the University of Dundee, in collaboration with research groups
from Munich and Grenoble have determined the structure of a key target enzyme for novel drug development to
treat a wide range of infectious diseases including malaria, tuberculosis and sexually transmitted bacterial
infections. |

After a marathon 16 and a half hours collecting at Tesco Riverside last weekend Sir Philip
Cohen was tired but elated to learn that he had collected £1009 for the new Diabetes Research Centre that will

According to the Institute for Scientific Information in Philadelphia, research papers
published by scientists at the University of Dundee over the 10 year period from January 1993 until April
2003 were quoted more frequently by other scientists (termed citations) than papers from scientists at any
other University in Europe. |
