Fundraising for The Institute for Cardiovascular Research (TICR) has been taking place around Dundee even before the Big City Challenge and the Gala Ball take off for healthy heart week in September.
Sainsbury's on Baldovie Road held a fun day raising over £300 for TICR. Store manager Kenny McDonald will present TICR chairman Robert McLaren with a cheque on Friday 22 August at 10am.
The Balgay bowling club held a gala day. Sponsored by Fernbrae hospital, the club raised £500 for the Institute which will tackle Scotland's number one killer - heart disease. The club's president, accompanied by Fernbrae's chief executive Ann Miller will present a cheque for £500 to Robert McLaren on Friday 22 August at 12 noon.
TICR will see some major fundraising events during Healthy Heart week next month. TV presenter Lorraine Kelly will be launching the Big City Challenge on Saturday 20 September when teams from work places, social clubs and voluntary organisations all across Dundee take part in a day of fun challenges. A print of a previously unpublished Beatles photograph is being auctioned online at www.ticrappeal.co.uk along with a host of other exciting prizes to raise funds for TICR. The lucky bidder will be announced at a Gala Samurai fundraising ball by John Simpson, BBC broadcaster and honorary graduate of the University of Dundee, on Saturday 27 September.
