Farewells to University academics
Two long serving members of staff, David Muir, Associate Dean of the University of Dundee's School of
Nursing and Midwifery, and Charlotte Lythe of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science, have recently been
saying their farewells to colleagues and friends at the University.
After almost forty years with the School of Nursing and Midwifery, David Muir celebrated his retiral with
a group of around 150 friends and colleagues. His contribution to the growing success of nursing and
midwifery education is recognised at the highest levels throughout Scotland.
Professor Sheila Hunt, Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery said, "We offer David our warm
congratulations on a very successful career and thanks for a life long contribution to establishing and
improving nursing and midwifery education in Scotland."
Charlotte Lythe recently retired from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences after a career that spanned
almost 40 years. Charlotte joined the staff of the Department of Economics of Queens College Dundee in
1965. She was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1978 and was Dean of the Faculty from 1989. Within the
broader Faculty, Charlotte has steered the development of the Contemporary European Studies programme
over the past eight years.
Faculty Dean Professor Chris Whatley said, "Charlotte was always a tireless worker for the Faculty in
her various roles of Programme Director, Head of Department, Adviser and Dean. We wish her well in her
retirement."
