Monica Lacey, Senior Technical Co-ordinator in the Life Sciences Teaching Unit has been honoured with a Royal Society of Edinburgh award for her exceptional contribution to the Young People's programme of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE).

Monica has given up much of her spare time, juggling her job and family commitments to assist the smooth running of the University's series of RSE master classes on a Saturday morning.

Dr Pete Rowell, Co-ordinator of the master class programme said: "The series of RSE master classes is a team effort involving several academic and technical staff in the School of Life sciences. As one of the main contributors, Monica has played a key part in those master classes which will help to enhance the interest and enthusiasm of local school children for the life sciences. The award is a well deserved recognition of her contributions to the School's science promotion activities.

Monica received her award at the RSE awards ceremony in Edinburgh on 27 August.
