The £3.8 million expansion to Dundee University Students' Association, featuring the addition of a new debating chamber and the extension and refurbishment of retail and bar areas, has begun.

The first stage of the two year programme is the construction of a £1.1 million north extension which will house a new bar and a retail outlet. Eventually, every aspect of both commercial and non-commercial facilities will be improved providing a centre that will serve the social and retail needs of 21st century students.

Chris Bustin, President of the Students' Association, said:"The redevelopment is more than just improving and expanding our existing commercial facilities or enhancing the support network and development opportunities we provide to students. It represents a belief in the link between the Students' Association and University as a whole.

Professor James Calderhead, Vice Principal of the University of Dundee said: "Our students deserve the best facilities for studying, relaxing and socialising. The extension to DUSA builds on the excellent reputation that the University of Dundee has in providing the best welfare and social facilities for its students. I am delighted that the work has started and am confident that this development will be highly valued by our current and future students."
