World Town Planning Day celebrated in Dundee

The University of Dundee is celebrating World Town Planning Day with colleagues from around the world.
The event has been organised by Town and Regional Planning staff from the University, who will take part in the virtual online conference along with delegates from prestigious regional and international organisations. They will discussing topics related to Housing Regeneration: Strengthening Communities, the theme of this year’s World Town Planning Day.
In the context of increasing urbanisation and economic inequity, housing pressures takes on unprecedented importance across the globe. The level of housing challenges is intensifying, and includes favela upgrading in Brazil, the housing crisis affecting the west, informal settlements and dilapidated inner-city dwellings in many cities in the developing world, models of financing and the privatisation of the public domain.
The focus of the 2015 WTPD online conference will be to showcase and celebrate plans and policies helping to meet these challenges around the world. Several physical conferences and celebrations, such as the Dundee one, are also taking place.
Current and former students and staff from the University are among the attendees at today’s event.
