Winter Graduation 2015

More than 1000 students will be joined by family and friends to celebrate their academic achievements at the University of Dundee's Winter Graduation next week.

Taking place at Caird Hall over three ceremonies on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th November, the Graduation will see students spanning a wide range of disciplines receive their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and diplomas. The winter celebrations are held to allow students whose courses finish after the traditional summer graduation to receive their awards as soon as possible after successfully completing their studies.

Professor Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, said, “I would like to warmly congratulate all graduating students on their achievements. This will be a day to remember for graduands and their guests and, from a personal point of view, it is always a source of pride to welcome students and their families here for graduation.

“This is a major milestone in anyone's life and their special day will also help to inspire current students to excel as they experience the very special atmosphere that surrounds Graduation. Winter Graduation has established a distinct feel that combines the best of tradition with the joy of the occasion and I look forward to hearing about the wonderful things these graduates go on to achieve in their chosen fields.”

The ceremonies have been organised according to the University’s new academic School structure. On the morning of 19th November, students from the Schools of Life Sciences, Science & Engineering, and Education & Social Work will receive their awards from 10am. The afternoon ceremony will begin at 2.30pm and see graduands from the Schools of Art & Design, Humanities, and Social Sciences cross the stage.

The third ceremony, for students from the Schools of Nursing & Health Sciences, Dentistry, and Medicine, will take place at 10am the following day. The Friday ceremony will also see honorary degrees bestowed upon Cathy Warwick CBE, General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, and Mary McCluskey, Artistic Director with the Scottish Youth Theatre.

Graduation Receptions will take place at Dundee University Student Association (DUSA) from 4pm–7pm on Thursday and from 1pm–4pm on Friday. Each graduate is entitled to one ticket for the Scottish-themed party and additional tickets are available at a cost of £10 each, with free entry for under 12’s.
