Students encouraged to ‘Give It A Go’ and take up a new sport

The University of Dundee will next week host its annual ‘Give it a Go’ days in an attempt to encourage students to try their hand at new sports.
Taster sessions in 39 sports ranging from archery to athletics, fencing to football, sailing to shinty and taekwando to trampoline will be held at the Institute of Sport and Exercise (ISE), University Swimming Pool, Riverside Sports Ground and elsewhere from 14th-20th September.
Give it a Go showcases the wide range of sports, clubs, and facilities on offer, and is organised by Dundee University Sport, the partnership between ISE and Dundee University Sports Union. It follows on from the successful Sports Fair, when new students signed up for University sports clubs in their droves.
Paul McPate, Assistant Director of ISE, said, “We are delighted to see so many freshers sign up for our teams but we also want to increase participation numbers among students returning to campus who haven’t joined so far.
“There is a huge selection of sports on offer and, even if you have never taken part before, we would encourage you to come along. Joining a sports club is a great way to keep fit, meet new friends and enhance your university experience.”
The Sports Union represents some 43 member and associate clubs. Several University teams have enjoyed success at a national level in recent years, and many sportsmen and women from the University have gone on to represent their country and achieve individual glory in their chosen field.
Sports Union President Dominic Marshal said, “Our Give It A Go events have proven to be a great success in the past and next week will see further taster sessions being offered on campus by the student sports clubs.
“It’s an opportunity to try out a sport that they fancy without obligation and, with 39 different sports being promoted, there is a variety of choice available to them.”
