Perception of Biology – new exhibition at D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum

A new exhibition of college students’ work inspired by the fascinating and unique 130 year-old collection at the University of Dundee’s D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum will open tomorrow.

The 12 students from the HND Contemporary Art course at Perth College (University of the Highlands and Islands) have worked intensively over a four-week period to present their response to the museum, taking influence from historical and visual aspects of the collection as well as responding instinctively to it.

Museum curator Matthew Jarron said, “The students are still working on their artworks, which will only be unveiled on the day of the opening. I’ve therefore got no idea what they’re going to come up with, but I’m excited to find out!”

The project has been run by Anna Orton, UHI Contemporary Art Lecturer, who added, “The end result will be a collective body of work that showcases a range of responses, encompassing humour, mark-making, collaged imagery and film work.”

The exhibition will be launched from 5-6.30pm on Tuesday, 10th March and the museum will then be open to the public from 11am-4pm this Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free and all are welcome.
