Penguin Parade joins Graduation

Dundee’s iconic penguins are lining up to join more than 1000 students at the University of Dundee's Winter Graduation this week.

The penguins at City Churches have donned their graduation gowns to join the celebrations on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th November.

They have been kitted out in gowns and hats made by Jen Urch, a third-year Textiles student at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, part of the University of Dundee. The penguins will be available for photographs and selfies before and after the graduation ceremonies over the next two days.

All of the Graduation action can be followed on social media via #uodgrad.

Taking place at Caird Hall over three ceremonies on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th November, the Graduation will see students spanning a wide range of disciplines receive their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and diplomas. The winter celebrations are held to allow students whose courses finish after the traditional summer graduation to receive their awards as soon as possible after successfully completing their studies.

The ceremonies have been organised according to the University’s new academic School structure. On the morning of 19nd November, students from the Schools of Life Sciences, Science & Engineering, and Education & Social Work will receive their awards from 10am. The afternoon ceremony will begin at 2.30pm and see graduands from the Schools of Art & Design, Humanities, and Social Sciences cross the stage.

The third ceremony, for students from the Schools of Nursing & Health Sciences, Dentistry, and Medicine, will take place at 10am the following day. The Friday ceremony will also see honorary degrees bestowed upon Cathy Warwick CBE, General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, and Mary McCluskey, Artistic Director with the Scottish Youth Theatre.
