Dundee nominated in Whatuni Student Choice Awards

The University of Dundee has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2015 Whatuni Student Choice Awards.

Over the past year, more than 20,000 students across the UK have cast their opinions for the next Whatuni Student Rankings. The rankings are based on averages taken from thousands of reviews submitted by students and, with the results now having been tallied, Dundee is in the running for two awards – Clubs & Societies and Student Union.

The new rankings offer prospective students an unbiased, student-led alternative to traditional university ranking systems. This year 20,000 reviews were counted, 111 universities met the minimum threshold to be considered for a Student Choice Award, and 39 universities received a nomination. The official 2015 Whatuni Student Rankings will be announced on 23rd April at a ceremony in London.

Thomas Veit, Director of External Relations at the University of Dundee, said, “We are absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for these awards. They are testament to the exceptional student experience we offer at Dundee, which has previously been voted the best in the UK in the Times Higher Education awards.”

Zuchaela Smylie, Vice President Communications and Campaigns at Dundee University Students’ Association, said, “DUSA has been named Scotland’s top students’ union for several years running and is consistently ranked as one of the best in the UK

“It is always our goal to ensure students have best experience during their time here and our strong culture of clubs and societies covering the breadth of extra-curricular activities plays a massive part in our success in such polls. The support we provide to new groups means this provision is expanding year on year, with 31 new clubs and societies this year and more soon to affiliate.”

Simon Emmett, Managing Director of Whatuni.com, added, “The importance of student opinion cannot be underestimated at a time of so much uncertainty in the sector. With a General Election approaching, students have legitimate concerns about the cost and value of higher education. This has been evident not just from the increase in reviews published on our site this year, but also in the feedback we get from speaking with students as part of our outreach program.

For prospective students, being able to hear first-hand about the quality of education and realistic expectations for life at uni is an invaluable resource when making a decision to pursue degree-level studies.  Our hope is that the student university rankings contribute to the research and preparation required for each student to choose the right uni for them.”
