Degree Show 2015 shows off brightest creative minds

The work of some of the UK’s brightest young creative minds will be celebrated at the University of Dundee Art, Design and Architecture Degree Show 2015 from May 22nd.

The annual Degree Show turns the University into Scotland’s largest exhibition space for a week, with over 300 students from the University’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and the School of the Environment showing their work to thousands of visitors.

Duncan of Jordanstone College is one of the leading art & design schools in the UK and many of its students go on to be world-renowned artists, animators, designers and makers.

This year’s cohort will be hoping to emulate the success of the likes of Turner Prize winner Susan Philipsz and nominees David Mach, Louise Wilson and Luke Fowler, who are all alumni of the College, as are photographer Albert Watson, fashion designer Hayley Scanlan, film director David Mackenzie, video games pioneer Aaron Garbut and the late painter Alberto Morrocco.

Professor Paul Harris, Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, said, “Our graduates are some of the most talented and creative you will find anywhere in the world and I am sure there will be stars among them who will go on to match and even surpass the successes of those who have passed through Degree Show in years gone by.

“These are the young people who will be at the vanguard of the film, animation and computer games industries, who will become leading artists and designers influencing and shaping our future, global society, and who are vital to Dundee’s own future as a recognised international centre of excellence in creativity and design.

“Degree Show is always a special time of celebration for the University community, and indeed the whole city, and I’m sure the thousands of visitors who come will be impressed by what they see. There will be much to enrich, to stimulate and to challenge all who visit.”

The Degree Show is one of the highlights of the city’s cultural calendar, attracting around 10,000 visitors each year and generating in excess of £1million for the local economy in the process.

Degree Show includes exhibits from students in all 11 undergraduate programmes at Duncan of Jordanstone College and from graduates in Architecture.

The traditional Preview Evening for the students, their families and guests takes place on Friday, 22nd May. The Degree Show then opens to the public the next day and remains open until Sunday, 31st May.

Admission is free and the exhibition is open from 10am until 8pm (Monday – Friday) and 10am to 4pm (Saturday – Sunday).
