Come and Sing Messiah for charity

The University of Dundee Choir are inviting members of the public to Come and Sing Messiah and help raise money for a worthy cause.

To mark 45 years since the University Choir's first Come and Sing, they are resurrecting the event to raise money for Nordoff Robbins Scotland, a music therapy charity that works with vulnerable children, young people and adults across the country.

The event takes place in Dundee Parish Church (St Mary's) on Saturday, 7th November. There will be a rehearsal between 2-5pm and the performance itself will take place at 6.30pm. The cost is £7.50 per person and all funds raised will be donated to Nordoff Robbins Scotland.

“All you need is enthusiasm to take part, no experience is necessary,” said Graeme Stevenson, Director of Music at the University’s Chaplaincy Centre. “We’d love to hear from anyone who fancies the idea of singing Messiah alongside an orchestra and soloists.”

“Over the summer we were reordering the Music Society archive and came across some programmes suggesting that the University Choir first did a Come and Sing Messiah in 1970. I’d been toying with the idea of doing something like this for a while so a 45th anniversary performance seemed like a good idea and the chance to raise some money for charity.”

Vocal scores are available if required and refreshments will be provided between the rehearsal and performance.
