Championships set for Dundee

The University of Dundee will tomorrow host the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) Conference Cup Finals, Scotland’s biggest student sports competition.

It will be the fourth time in five years that the prestigious event has been held in Dundee. More than 300 student competitors from 12 institutions will descend upon the campus to contest 16 finals in badminton, basketball, football, hockey, rugby, netball, tennis and volleyball.

Dundee will be represented by its four teams who have qualified for the finals – Ladies Hockey 1st; Men's Football 1st & 2nd, and Women's Football.

Paul McPate, Assistant Director of the University’s Institute of Sport & Exercise said he was delighted to be welcoming leading student athletes from across the country to Dundee.

“This is the biggest one-day, multi-sport student event in Scotland and so it is a great honour to be hosting it once again,” he said.

“Sport is a major part of the student experience at Dundee, and we are hoping that home advantage helps our teams to victory. Top student sportsmen and women from a number of different sports will be competing to prove they are the best in Scotland, and they should all be congratulated for the hard work and commitment they have shown over the past season.”
