‘Bodies in Motion’ – exhibition opens on 7th March

A new exhibition focusing on movement and its study and representation will open at the University of Dundee this weekend.

‘Bodies in Motion’ opens at the Tower Foyer Gallery on Saturday, 7th March. Featuring physiological instruments, anatomical diagrams and figure drawings from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD) and the University’s museum collections, the exhibition explores the way that both science and art have sought to understand motion in the human body.

‘Bodies in Motion’ has been curated by Alix Marion, a postgraduate student in Museum & Gallery Studies at the University of St Andrews, who has been undertaking her work placement with the University of Dundee Museum Collections.

Alix said, “The collections of the museum are so rich it was difficult to choose a theme. After seeing the abundant collection of drawings, I knew I wanted to exhibit those, and the theme of movement allows us to connect art and science and bring together other parts of the collections.”

Museum curator Matthew Jarron added, “This fascinating exhibition brings out some rarely seen material from our stores, from teaching charts and scientific instruments to artwork for comics. We’re also planning a range of events to accompany the exhibition, which will be announced soon.”

The exhibition will be on display until Saturday, 2nd May and is open from 9.30am-8.30pm on weekdays and 9.30am-4.30pm on Saturdays. Admission is free.
