The VRC Dialogues at DCA
Military technology, hazardous shipwrecks, artificial intelligence and computer models of disease form the subject matter for a series of talks and discussions in DCA by researchers at the University.
Two artists from the School of Media Arts and Imaging begin the series on February 20 with a discussion entitled Modern Military Entropy: A Field Guide. In this Gair Dunlop will discuss his recent work amongst fading Cold War technology while Chris Rowland will present his work using visualisation techniques to produce accurate images of hazardous shipwrecks.
On 28 February Dr Chris Reed and Dr Jesse Hoey from the School of Computing will look at artificial intelligence in a discussion entitled How to Build a Mind.
The final dialogue will take place on 26 March when mathematician Professor Mark Chaplain from the School of Engineering, Physics and Mathematics and John McGhee, a PhD student at the Visual Research Centre pool their skills to consider how we understand, describe and overcome health conditions in Modelling the Disease.
The discussions on 20 February and 26 March take place between 7pm and 9pm and the event on 28 February between 5pm and 7.30pm. All are at DCA at 152 Nethergate, Dundee. Tickets are free but should be booked at the DCA Box Office on 01382 909900.
