Paris catwalk shows for textiles students
Textile students from DJCAD have been mingling with movers and shakers from the world of fashion
at a series of Creative Scotland events organised by the Scottish Executive. A platform for the
skills in knit, print, stitch and weave that DJCAD has to offer, the fashion and textile catwalk
shows were staged in the British Embassy in Paris and the Beurs Van Berluge in Amsterdam.
Teaching Fellow Frances Stevenson represents the DJCAD Textiles Department at Scottish Executive
'Creative Scotland' meetings and has been project manager for these events. She said, "These
prestigious events have given our students the opportunity not only to chat with major designers
in the fashion world, such as Mary Quant and Comme de Garcons, but also to see their creations come
alive on the catwalk."
She added, "The Executive has had tremendous feedback on the events and the Fashion/Textiles show
has been a great success for everyone. Our students are being given the opportunity to see their
work come alive in an international setting. The Textiles Department has embraced the opportunity
afforded by Creative Scotland to promote its creative talents through its students - our best
ambassadors for a creative Scotland."
