Dyson praises Dundee design
The high quality of the design courses taught at DJCAD was recently lauded by renowned
engineering designer James Dyson, when he presented the annual BBC Dimbleby lecture. Dyson cited
Dundee as one of just six art colleges in the UK which are "the best in the country" and who are
"doing the right thing" in terms of moving from teaching industrial design to teaching engineering
design.
David Townson, Course Director in the School of Design, said, "This is an impressive feat for
product design at Dundee. We have not yet produced out first cohort of graduates and are already
being cited as an exemplar. All the other colleges mentioned by James Dyson are well
established.
"Some of our students met with James Dyson in London at the Design Museum a couple of years ago.
They spoke to him about our course and clearly it has stuck in his mind."
